15-3-09: Another OPTUS money making trick! We have recently received a number of enquiries from readers questioning the validity of OPTUS trying to charge a fee for mailing out paper invoices to their customers. Frankly, that would be the height of arrogance any company could display, because it simply means that customers WITHOUT access to the Internet would be receiving favourable treatment as they do not have to pay such a nasty fee. The proposed charges of $2.20 per account, i.e. Broad Band, Home phone and Mobile phone, would add up to a total of $6.60 per month if you do not sign-up to "Optus online billing"! We thought that the proposed fees are not fair and are in fact discriminating towards Optus customers with Internet access. In consequence, we have written a strong letter to OPTUS requesting a re-consideration of these unrealistic fees. Our letter is published hereunder for your perusal. We also intend to publish the response from Optus once it has reached us. In case that such response is negative, we suggest that those readers who are against these new rip-off fees cancel their OPTUS subscriptions and seek a new provider who does not display a similar corporate greed than this organisation. .......... webmaster@silverpeers.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- 14-4-09: As expected OPTUS has arrogantly 'forgotten' to respond to our letter. However, the people at ACCC have been of assistance by supplying the following explanations. Thank you ACCC! It appears that the 'devil is in the detail' and that individuals will have to ensure that they read the fine print before signing any future agreements. To all readers who have sent emails of complaints about the OPTUS trick, we are sorry but unfortunately we can not be of any further assistance to you. By all means do call OPTUS and explain your dissatisfaction. If that does fall on deaf ears, then there is always the opportunity to change to another (read "better") service provider. ................. webmaster Back to: HOME Back to: Letters |
