Ok members, here is another installment from Jack & Jude, those two greying travelers who at present are trekking the wild mountain areas of Norther New South Wales...............in freezing conditions.

Hello from the windy and wet far north coast of NSW !
We've updated our blog with photos and a short video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDMp9my6 ... e=youtu.be) of our 5 day trek through the high altitude heath and sedgelands of the Great Dividing range.

With nearly everyone talking about Climate Change, we've also added a link to the CSIRO "State of the Climate 2012" Some may think its findings are biased, but not Jack and Jude. Sea temperature change is something we have witnessed in our forty years afloat. Its devastating effect on Earth's creatures is documented in "The Tasman Sea: Australia’s ocean hotspot" (http://jackandjude.com/earth-now/#seatemp) found on our Earth First webpage. Tasmania is being invaded by tropical fish and the vital bull kelp is dying !

Meanwhile back home, Jude is delightfully happy when reading to and playing with her many grand children, while Jack is loving his time playing rough house and receiving heaps of cuddles. We haven't as yet had much time for house maintenance!!

We've been to Boot Camp!
At our time in life, considering we love doing adventurous dangerous things, it's wise to be sure we'll last the course as it would be embarrassing to be plucked off our ship in mid-ocean!
So we've put our bodies to test. Chuck twenty kilos onto our backs, walk to the end of the track, then keep going into virgin wilderness for the next eight days.
Jude loves it. Jack loves Jude, so he's her slave and submits. :>)

Seriously we are responsible adventurers who like to keep in touch with our bodies, plus we love to be absolutely alone surrounded by some of Australia's finest bushland.
This time we tackled the high altitude swamps, rock and forests that form the mighty Clarence River of Northern NSW.

Our journey was timed to coincide with the waxing full moon with plenty of warm fires that gave way to ice on the tent each morning.
Heavy work pushing through head high thorny understory to explore the rock outcrops above 1,000 meters.

The IUCN and Zoological Society of London has listed the 100 most endangered fauna and flora. Most of these creatures are not known by many, but that is not the point of this article.
What is important are the reasons for their demise.

You'll be able to relate to this outing as we ran away with three of our young ones to enjoy the sunny weather and spectacular scenery. There's a grand bit of an Osprey tearing apart its fish breakfast. Love to hear your comments.

Next week we're off again tramping through the wilderness in a campaign to test our fitness as we're seriously consdiering sailing across the ditch to NZ this summer. Got to be at full strength for that.

Hello
Our website ( http://jackandjude.com/log/ ) has been updated with a new short story about a time long ago when little Jerome dissected an oceanic predator. Then there's an account of our five day trek through soothing Cooradooral Valley, once a passageway for pioneers, now hidden from time. Great photos.

We urge you all to take some action over the news that 50% of the Great Barrier Reef has died in less than three decades. Those who have read our work will know we have been shouting about this failure for several years. Alarmingly, unless things are turned around pronto, another 50% will be gone.

It's hot and dry in the Northern Rivers, we haven't had real rain in record time, and we're down to our last inch of water in the tanks. So, we're taking the grand kids camping this weekend to save water - wink, wink.

Banyandah is scheduled for Splash this Monday, the weather looks perfect.
She's been high and dry, out the water for 7 1/2 months,

Jack and Jude have been back on board 7 weeks, getting Banyandah ready for new adventures. Time flies when you're having fun. :)

Jude's hobbling. Sore hands, sore toes, So much work. I tore a shoulder muscle doing nothing strenuous. But all systems are go and we're on the cusp of being set free. We're geared up, eyes wide open and ready to see what fun we can get up to further north. Anyone fancy a Coral Sea Cruise?

We are waiting for a weather window to head north up the NSW coast to celebrate Judith's Birthday at home with family and friends. After that, we may make a run around the Coral Sea as it might be nice to swim in warm waters..... :)

What our eyes told us that morning was that the harsh, demanding pioneering life in this remote location had bound the Straitsmen tightly like strands of strong rope. They enjoy a joke to ease their load, love a laugh, a slap on the back, and can knock back a few cold ones because life is hard living on the edge of Bass Strait.
