Tips & Tricks, now that should really explain it all!

How often have you heard someone mentioning a new household tip just after you had a spot of bother and couldn't come up with an answer?

We would like to believe that there are thousands of people who would gratefully accept and use ideas and suggestions, which someone else has perfected. This could be anything practical and handy to have available at times when patience is starting to run out. There are plenty of websites abounding with useful hints, tips & tricks. We could all go and start using 'Google' to find these sites. Wouldn't it be nice to just stay here and still have the benefit other people are willing to pass on to us?
Of course it would, therefore we intend to lean on your shoulders and let you tell us the best tips & tricks you have successfully used. No point stating that whiskey and ice is your best tip. Most of us already have had an inkling.
Cleaning tips, cheap groceries or clothing, great prices on wine or spirits, household tricks (including proven cooking hints), anything that can save us money, sanity and/or time will be acceptable for inclusion here.

We will try and categorise the different submissions in order that you can find the solutions fast.
All we need is someone to start the ball rolling and we'll have a great collection of Tips, Hints & Tricks in no time.

WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a LITTLE on live bait or lures and you will be catching the big
one in  no time. It's a lot cheaper than the chemical attractants that are made for just that
purpose. Keep in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing is
   not allowed everywhere.
~ Keeps away chiggers on the kids
~ Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately, and stops the itch.
~ WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray on the mark and wipe with a
   clean rag.
~ Also, if you've discovered that your teenage daughter has washed and dried a tube of
lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with WD-40 & re-wash.
   Lipstick is gone!
~ If you sprayed WD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the moisture and allow
   the car  to start
~ WD-40, long known for its ability to remove leftover tape smudges (sticky label tape), is
also a lovely perfume and air freshener!  Sprayed liberally on every  hinge in the house,
it leaves that distinctive clean fresh scent for up to two days!
~ Seriously though, it removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor!
~ Use WD-40 for those nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring. It doesn't seem to harm the
finish and you won't have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off. Just remember to
open some windows if you have a lot of marks.
~ Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed quickly! Use WD-40!

ALSO, WD-40 is great for cleaning and protecting flat grave markers or foot stones. It will keep them looking shiny and new!

This one is from Lisa, thank you:

Use white vinegar as a softener when doing the washing...about half cup per load.
It is environmentally friendly, and cost effective. Buy 2 bottles, and make 4, by pouring
half from each bottle into another bottle, and filling with water. Leave for 3 weeks
and it will regenerate to original strenghth
!

From Debbie, thanks very much:

At the beginning of every school year, department stores (Coles in this case)  have
exercise books for 1c / 2c each. Buy ten (10) or more for your (grand) children for
throughout the year when they ask for "something to draw on"; you have got it!!

Trevor has sent us the following tip which sounds very logical:

Save all your used toilet roll centres and use them for seedlings =
cut them in half, fill with good quality potting mix,  plant seed in each one. Tthen place in  a
container, like an icecream container cut in half, with holes to allow water to drain out.
.when seeds germinate and are ready to plant out into garden, leave in the cardboard
roll and place where you want  the plant to mature the cardboard will rot away in no time .
Saves the seedling from stress and also helps to protect from some critters.
